Struck, But Not Struck Down

Lately, I’ve been thinking a lot about forgiveness.

Not because it’s easy. In fact, forgiveness is often one of the hardest choices we are ever asked to make. It requires us to release the hurt, disappointment, and resentment that can take root when we’ve been wronged. It asks us to move forward even when we never receive the apology we hoped for or the justice we believe we deserved.

Life has a way of handing out strikes. Sometimes they come through broken relationships, unexpected setbacks, harsh words, betrayal, or circumstances that feel unfair. In those moments, it can be tempting to believe that each strike defines us or determines our future.

But one of the most powerful lessons I’ve learned is that getting struck is not the same thing as being struck down.

Challenges may leave a mark, but they do not have to leave us defeated. Disappointment may knock us off course, but it does not have to rob us of hope. And the actions of others do not have to dictate the condition of our hearts.

Forgiveness is not about pretending something didn’t happen. It is about refusing to let the pain continue to control us. It is choosing freedom over bitterness and peace over resentment. It is deciding that our future deserves more space than our wounds.

The people I admire most are not those who have avoided hardship. They are the ones who have endured it, extended grace anyway, and continued moving forward with courage. They understand that resilience is not the absence of struggle. It is the decision to rise again after every setback.

We all receive strikes in life. But as long as we continue to stand, continue to love, continue to forgive, and continue to move forward, we are not struck down.

And sometimes, that quiet act of getting back up is the greatest victory of all.
