This month we celebrated our forefathers and mothers – a group of brave men and women – who declared independence from oppression, inequality, injustice, and tyranny.
Let’s follow their example and declare independence from the biggest tyrant in our own lives.
Ourselves
Yes.
We are the biggest oppressor and the most unfair when it comes to how we treat ourselves.
We often use negative self-talk…
Belittle ourselves
Highly critical
Don’t forgive ourselves for mistakes
Deprive ourselves of joy as penance
Yes – we treat others better than ourselves
We spend lots of resources (time and money) over our lifetime to improve our bodies, our businesses, our homes…but we often are focused outwards and not on ourselves and what we need.
Forgiveness, self-acceptance, love of self…personal joy
It’s a tax if you will…the same type of excise tax that led to a tea party one night over 240 years ago.
So let’s start fresh and declare independence from this tyrant of self-oppression.
Hold yourself to a high standard but not an impossible one
Forgive if you slip up
Be constructive in self-criticism…but don’t degrade
Don’t punish yourself – that isn’t self-improvement.
Free yourself from negative talk and set yourself free.
