I like to say that I’m in the legacy business. It’s one of the many reasons I love what I do for a living and the reason this will always be a ministry and not just a job.
While what I do involves protecting and preserving financial assets, of course, it’s not all about money. Indeed, it’s always about much more than that. Legacy is a feeling that transcends self and is the thread that strings together generations. At its core, legacy is about the past, present, and future of our love.
The legacy and traditions born of love are often intertwined in fun and unique ways. Thanks to my father-in-law, Mike Smith, we have a tradition in our family of Reyn Spooners. Over the decades, those that come into Mike’s circle of love (and that’s a big circle) have been known to receive a Reyn Spooner as a Christmas gift.
For the past 17 years I have been such a fortunate recipient. Now with each shirt I don, I am hit with the memory of the joy of that year’s Christmas and the merriment of time well spent with family and friends. Each shirt has its own story, and when I put them on I always feel like I’m receiving a giant hug from the past, present, and future. I plan to save my shirts and pass the love of Spooners to my children and some day to their children. They truly are a wearable legacy.
So there you have it, it’s a Spoonerful of Christmas here in my household and we are loving it. My wish for you is that you and your family are enjoying your family traditions and that the legacy of your love continues for many years to come.
